Dr. Seigal’s Cookie Diet

What is heck is a cookie diet?

It’s Dr. Siegal’s COOKIE DIET™. That’s right – it’s a cookie diet! You eat cookies, and almost nothing else but cookies, all day long.

All cookies, all the time. Can you really lose weight on this seemingly “fad” diet? The answer is YES!

Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet was created by pioneering diet doctor and author Sanford Siegal, D.O., M.D., medical director of Siegal Medical Group which operates several South Florida weight loss clinics. The special cookies are high in protein and contain a proprietary blend of amino acids, natural food proteins that suppress hunger.

Actually, you do eat one meal at day – at dinner. Otherwise, the plan is to eat six special cookies throughout the day, and 6 ounces of lean meat and a cup of vegetables for dinner. Daily calorie count: 800 calories.

“It’s a cookie, but it’s a very special cookie. The hunger-suppressing effect is really created by the protein in the cookie,” Siegal told NBC San Diego in an interview in 2003. “Someone who is totally compliant, does everything we tell them to do, and follows an 800-calorie diet, will lose about 15 pounds per month.”

Just the basics

Similiar to the other high-protein, low calorie plans such as Nutrisystem, Optifast and Medifast, the basics behind Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet are to cut back on calories below the daily requirement. Calorie deficit = weight loss. When you eat foods with low sugar content, high fiber, high protein, but low calories and fats, will keep your engine running throughout the day without the “sugar spikes” that junk food will give you.

Since most women can lose weight on a 1000 calorie or 1200 calorie count diet plan, 800 cals obviously seems to be an idea way to drop those few pesky pounds a couple of weeks before the wedding, or going on vacation and not having little bulges in the bathing suit.

AT THE CLINICS: Dr. Siegal’s three Miami, Florida-area clinics will give you a one-on-one consult for a cost of $250 but that also covers supplemental vitamins, an EKG, and medical history review as well as BMI and blood pressure exams.

ONLINE: Your other option is to order a week’s supply directly online: choose from Chocolate, Blueberry, Oatmeal Raisin, Banana & Coconut at www.CookieDietOnline.com.

But is Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet right for you?

The not-so-good: A few people complain about the taste of the cookies (I happen to like them!), and unlike other plans that train you on portion control (Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem, et al), Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet trains you with hunger control. (Which you’ll also adapt to on other diets – a little hunger is actually good for you).

The good: Many people love the cookies, and they have reported success with this diet – as well they should; with a daily limit of 800 calories (or 1000 for cheaters), they experience quick weight loss in just the first week or two. Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet has been around since 1975 and has been used by more than 500,000 of Dr. Siegal’s patients so it has a reputation to live up to.

Perhaps if you’ve been successful on another diet programs and have lost 30, 40, or 50 pounds but just can’t seem to lose that last 5 or 10 pounds, you might give Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet a try – provided that you then return to your regular nutrition regime immediately upon reaching your goal.
